Surface
Causes
Canker sore causes are
varied if you only look at surface and topical reasons; radiation,
chemotherapy, dental visits, acidic foods such as lemons, oranges,
and tomatoes.
Some wonder if it's viruses or
bacteria, maybe even transmitted sexually.
It could be any of those things.
However, you still have to have an emotional basis for the mouth
ulcer to form.
Emotional Causes
Those that study the
"mind-body-connection" and
holistic
alternative medicine demonstrate that, as with any physical
symptom, what is at the basis for the cause of the canker sores are negative emotions.
Examples of suspected emotions that
could cause mouth ulcers such as herpes simplex, fever blisters,
cold sores, and canker sores may be emotional triggers such as
blame, fear, anger, overwhelm, resentment, shock, guilt, shame and
lack of inner peace.

Canker Sores (Aphthous Ulcers)
Canker
sores, not to be mixed up with cold sores (which is a common
misconception), are small white ulcers that develop on the inside of the
mouth on the tongue, lips, gums, or the inside of the cheeks. Unlike cold
sores, which are caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1, a canker sore
is actually an inflammation. The most common cause of such sores is stress
and allergies. It can also occur as a result of over acidity, poor dental
hygiene, vitamin/mineral deficiencies, an immune response to bacteria in
the mouth, mistakenly biting one’s own cheek, and irritations from dental
work. Frequent sores have also been associated with Crohn’s disease.
The canker sores can last anywhere from 4-25 days, thus, following some
suggested guidelines may shrink the length of their unwelcomed visit. In
terms of supplements, it is a good idea to take high quality Acidophilus.
Vitamin C which fights infections and boosts the immunity is also
suggested. Herbal formulas containing capsicum, alfalfa, calendula,
comfrey, peppermint and garlic can also speed up healing time. The
homeopathic remedies Borax, Echinacea, and Belladonna have also been
helpful in eliminating canker sores.
As far as diet goes, you will want to stay away from sugars, coffee, meat,
citrus fruits, chewing gum, and processed foods. You should eat plenty of
salad and include raw onions in the diet as much as possible. The sulfur
found in the onions is excellent for healing. Include plenty of yogurt,
cottage cheese, buttermilk, and kefir in your diet as well. It is
important to change your tooth brush once a month to reduce the risk of
further sores. If you have a canker sore that does not heal after 25 days,
you should consult your doctor.

Answer and Questions on Canker
Sore Causes:
I get bad canker sores cause by my braces and other trauma to the mouth. Nothing I've tried really helps. Just a little bit of relief. Any help would be great. Thanks.
http://i38.tinypic.com/2dklu0p.jpg http://i33.tinypic.com/zo6bsw.jpg Just copy and past. These are both two days old The first day. The top one was red. But then "calmed" second. And I've never had this happen before and I'm a health freak. I do not have any of the symptoms of it. Except during the summer i had 1. Just 1 fever blister on my lip. But the first picture they don't look like blisters it just came in a group and this had worried me. Also. I've had 1 other sore and i think it was a canker sore. Cause it was white with a red surround on the bottom of my tongue. Just someone help please.
OK here is the deal I have had tons of canker sores in my life no big deal they go away on their own. But now I have a sore on the inside of my gums back where my wisdom teeth were they have been gone for a few years and the gums in that area are swollen and I have what looks like a small cut with a canker sore over it but it like a line or scratch not round. Can a canker sore cause the gums to swell, my left gland in under my throat is swollen and it hurts like hell to eat or drink most of the time? Is this just a canker sore or is it something else? P.S. I don't wear braces or dentures, don't chew tobacco or drink alcohol in excess people have asked me this already as possible causes.
I wanted to know how are canker sores caused? I dont really stress out and i dont eat spicy foods all the time but usually ppl would get them 4 times a year..well with me i can them 2 or 3 times a month..and it bothers the crap out me and nothin works.. i have slight anemia can that be a factor too??
I got a canker sore inside my lip and it really hurts when I eat. Ever since I got a canker sore I noticed every now and then I feel dizzy. P.S. I also dont get that much sleep but please answer the first question first, thanks.
im feeling confident about going in right now i hope it doesn't change, cause id really like this tooth out so i dont have to worry about it anymore. is there a way to calm my nerves in the mean time? im pretty sure i have a tooth/gum infection and at random times it does leak pus and i just put peroxide on it then brush my teeth. i have no pain except random pain that last a few seconds. i also think it might just be a canker sore cause i just got over a cold and when i still had a cold is when i noticed a little bump on my gum it doesnt hurt if i push on it. its more less an annoying feeling cause i can feel it and it feels like i have food stuck there but i don't. sorry for rambling but this is it. someone please help me out.
For about two days I have been experiencing some pain in my mouth in the inside of my cheek. Being stupid, I tried to open up the inside of my mouth to try and find the canker sore and I repeatidly kept pulling my cheeks and trying to too find the pain. This made it VERY worse for me, since the past night I have MASSIVE pain every time I swallow and eat. This must be a big canker sour near my throat/further cheek area due to the severe pain when swallowing. It hurts alot right now as I'm typing and I'm worried. Also, every time I grin or try to stretch my cheek it hurts. Will this go away? And is there some sort of home remedy that I can make to help reduce the pain? Thank you P.S. I'm worried that there may be even two canker sores causing this. Could there be?
I have this canker sore and i had a fever and sore throat. Do u think the canker sore could be the cause?
Ever since I started taking the birth control pill Yasmin (2 months now), I've had this recurring canker sore just beneath my tongue. It is pretty painful and very annoying - it seems to just wane and come back every few days. It's at its worst right now and I have found this one forum where quite a few girls also said they were getting canker sores from Yasmin. Could this really be the cause? If so, will they just eventually disappear or continue FOREVER while I'm on the pill? Please Help!
I'm tired of avoiding oranges and pineapples, for example, because of the canker sores they cause. Any supplements or remedies to prevent?

About three weeks ago, I met this girl at a party. At the time, I had canker sores from the braces in my mouth. The girl and I made out and I haven't seen her since. Anyways, I've recently been having symptoms of HIV, such as a sore throat, diarrhea for more than a week etc. The sores in my mouth are also not going away. My question is whether or not it is possible for me to contract HIV in this way? I don't know if the canker sores caused by my braces are enough of a wound to allow an infection from saliva (I'm pretty sure she wasn't bleeding). Also, I've recently taken a HIV test approximately two and a half weeks ago post incident, and it came out negative... Should I be worried/could I have HIV? Would really appreciate a good reply
