Canker sores, fever
blisters, herpes, and cold sores; what's the difference?
First of all, they are all ulcers,
painful and have the same root cause; negative emotions. Yes, there may be a
virus involved, but it is the negative emotion that causes the vulnerability to the virus and/or bacteria.
Actually,
the treatments for all are
very similar as well. If you use a canker sore treatment
for your mouth it almost always works with herpes simplex, fever
blisters and cold
sores as well. And, vice versa.
The canker sore remedies that we
point you to are based on
holistic
alternative medicine for the most part but we do realize that a
quick fix treatment can be tremendously helpful as well.
Not only do want want to find out how
to get rid of canker sores on
the tongue and throat; canker sores in the mouth
anywhere for that matter. And, we want to know how to prevent them
from occurring permanently, so we have
canker sores causes for you to
read about too.

What Causes Canker Sores? - Nurse's Guide
If you currently have a canker sore or a few in your mouth you may be wondering what causes canker sores in the mouth. Perhaps you have had these annoying red, inflamed sores many times before. Canker sores are also called aphthous ulcers in the medical field, but I'll keep this simple.
A canker sore is a painful open sore in the mouth. It can be yellow or white and is usually surrounded by an inflamed reddened area. A canker sore is never a malignant (cancerous) sore. It is benign, meaning it is not cancer. It is also not a herpes sore (herpes simplex).
For some reason they seem to happen in females or women more than they do in males or men. It doesn't matter how old you are you can get them at any age. They often crop up when kids are in elementary school.
You can find canker sores on the inside of the cheeks, on the inside of the lips, on the palate and tongue and at the bottom of the gums.
It's well known that canker sores can run in families. One of the reasons for this is because whatever is causing this ulcer may have some genetic cause or reason. I've found that people who have gluten intolerance and/or have celiac disease have canker sores until they stop eating gluten. This could be one genetic connection, since celiac disease is genetic and passed on in the genes although the genes still need to be triggered by something unknown. One can carry the gene but not have full-blown celiac disease yet or ever.
Some experts think it's associated with the body's immune system. Here again it could also relate back to celiac disease because gluten flattens the villi in the small intestine and nutrients can't be absorbed so the immune system suffers and its defenses are broken down. So nutritional deficiencies could play a part.
Even if one doesn't have celiac disease or is not gluten intolerant, they may be eating a bad diet. The standard American diet is lacking in a lot of good phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals and we don't know what we're missing that could cause canker sores. It's thought that deficiencies in iron, folic acid, or Vitamin B-12 could play a part in developing canker sores.
The canker sores often crop up after a mouth injury due to dental work, getting braces doing aggressive tooth cleaning, or biting of the tongue or cheek.
Canker sores can also appear during emotional stress, during menstrual periods and when there are hormonal changes. Food allergies could play a part too. Then there is exposure in the mouth to various chemicals, irritating the sensitive tissues.
These are the most common causes of canker sores but there are many causes. There is much you can do to get rid of canker sores and stop them from ever appearing with the right treatments and remedies. There are many ways to get to the cause and find the best natural cure for canker sores.

These are some question and answers on
canker sores.
I get these suckers a lot, and they hurt so badly. Sometimes they happen on their own, but if I happen to bite my cheek/lip or get any scratches in my mouth they turn into those white, very painful little sores. Saturday, my dog jumped up on my chest, and cut my lip right open... and now I've got this horrible, really really painful sore there. I swish warm saltwater, but it just numbs it for a little while. What other treatments are there? What could I do to prevent them?
Well... a week ago it all started with two canker sores in my mouth. They took longer than usual to clear about four days. Then I felt better. not too far from there, I started getting headaches loss of appetite that progressed with an upcoming of sore tonsils. So I waited it out, felt like total crap one day and just stayed home from school, my stomache was upset and everything. When I went back to school they did a strep test it came back negative. Around this thursday or so I started getting like an itchyish ear associated with the hurting tonsils, and my head would hurt pretty bad whenever I bent over or anything that involved moving my head. Yesterday I felt completely better, but today I awoke I've been coughing my brains out, now one of my tonsils hurt, and the soreness is spreading like by my ear if that makes any sense not in it. Still no fever but I have no idea what the heck this is. It's been going on too longgggg.
just today i've discovered two small pimple like bumps in mouth. one on either side. i do have braces, however, i do know that it is not a cut from the braces. i guess they could be canker sores, however, they're tiny and cause me zero pain
It's just a little pea-sized lump on my right jawline. It's painful to touch. I've never had this happen before, so I'm not sure what it is. I think in my sleep I must have bit the inside of my cheek really really hard (or maybe my husband punched me in the face while I was sleeping?) because there's a cut in there and a huge canker sore now. I don't know if this has anything to do with it... Should I get this checked out? I'm worried it's cancer or something. When I touch it with my fingers, I can move it around. It's sick. Sorry, the sore in my cheeck is separate from this lump. I only added that in there because I'm wondering if there is some kind of an infection and that's where this lump came from?
I am in legit pain right now. Yesterday i went to the doctor and they tested me for mono and i tested positive:( on top of that.....i have so many canker sores! they hurt like a bitch! i have like 9 of them...i have no idea how they got there. my throat hurts, i have no appetite whtsoever, i cant eat anyways because of these sores! i wanna cry. i have used listerine and that burns sooo bad but its killing the germs. help me! how long do canker sors stay in ur mouth? what can i do to get them away faster? thanks..
Just a few days ago we noticed he was favoring the left side of his mouth when he eats. So when we looked into his mouth we seen an indent sort of thing that looks to me like a canker sore or something where he might have done when he was chewing on a denta bone because we noticed he was having trouble eating it. So we have been rinsing it with warm salt water to see if that would help and it is now turning white. Does anyone know what this could be?
Im 23 and always getting them, especially the past few months and for some reason they dont go away in a few days like they used to, now they last for up to 2 weeks before they finally heal.
My boyfriend gets canker sores all year long and often more than one at a time and he is always in discomfort. I know there's no cure for herpes and that cold sores randomly spring up whenever the virus decides to be bothersome, but is there any way at all to control it? Even just a little bit?
ok i had a pen in my mouth and i pushed it some way and it poked underneath my tounge...and now i got a canker sore there and it hurts really bad! i tried salt water and it got a little bit bigger and whiter, is that supposed to happen? and i have another one on my top lip inside my mouth what else can i try to make it go away!? it hurts really bad and i can barely talk and eat please help!
I got my tongue pierced about 5 days ago and the swelling is going down but now I have a canker sore around the hole, the under part of my tongue. Should I take off my tongue ring? I just put some canker sore medication (kanka) on it for now, hoping the canker sore would just heal. Thanks!
alright, so i have this cold sore on my inside lip, about 2 days ago it looks like a normal canker sore, and i have chewed tobacco about 4 times already with it, and now i just looked at it, and it looks like a bubble? and theres like a black dot inside of it, i have no idea what it is and am wondering if a piece of tobacco got stuck in there? and should i try popping it with a needle if it is stuck?
if my girlfriend has been getting a lot of canker sores due to stress lately and she performs oral sex on me can it mutate into herpes? or is there any risk involved in getting oral sex from someone with a canker sore?
My brother and i both fell into the typical categories of canker sore...victims...i guess. You know...a few a year, starting around 10 years of age. ONE time, we both got them a lot, but after a month that died down. Suddenly...im 15, doing everything exactly the same, canker sores left and right. a new one EVERYDAY! I have three right now. i have a medicine type thing, Kanka, it works well for numbing it for about 10 minutes. but i have to apply it constantly to have any effect. they do bleed sometimes, and they are verrryyy painful. i can barely eat anything because its so bad. Water hurts, juice hurts, bread hurts, everything hurts. not moving my mouth and it still hurts. im tired of it, suggestions?
im 15, and starting about 2 days ago, i started getting ear pain, mild ear pain. Then today I started getting a painless sore in my mouth. Kinda like an ulcer or canker sore. And now my chin/neck hurts. I dont think anyone in my family history has had Throat cancer. And i dont smoke, drink, etc. My diet isnt 100% healthy. but its not bad either. What should I do? If i go to the doctors office, how will they diagnose me?
