Canker sores, fever
blisters, herpes, and cold sores; what's the difference?
First of all, they are all ulcers,
painful and have the same root cause; negative emotions. Yes, there may be a
virus involved, but it is the negative emotion that causes the vulnerability to the virus and/or bacteria.
Actually,
the treatments for all are
very similar as well. If you use a canker sore treatment
for your mouth it almost always works with herpes simplex, fever
blisters and cold
sores as well. And, vice versa.
The canker sore remedies that we
point you to are based on
holistic
alternative medicine for the most part but we do realize that a
quick fix treatment can be tremendously helpful as well.
Not only do want want to find out how
to get rid of canker sores on
the tongue and throat; canker sores in the mouth
anywhere for that matter. And, we want to know how to prevent them
from occurring permanently, so we have
canker sores causes for you to
read about too.

What Causes Canker Sores? - Nurse's Guide
If you currently have a canker sore or a few in your mouth you may be wondering what causes canker sores in the mouth. Perhaps you have had these annoying red, inflamed sores many times before. Canker sores are also called aphthous ulcers in the medical field, but I'll keep this simple.
A canker sore is a painful open sore in the mouth. It can be yellow or white and is usually surrounded by an inflamed reddened area. A canker sore is never a malignant (cancerous) sore. It is benign, meaning it is not cancer. It is also not a herpes sore (herpes simplex).
For some reason they seem to happen in females or women more than they do in males or men. It doesn't matter how old you are you can get them at any age. They often crop up when kids are in elementary school.
You can find canker sores on the inside of the cheeks, on the inside of the lips, on the palate and tongue and at the bottom of the gums.
It's well known that canker sores can run in families. One of the reasons for this is because whatever is causing this ulcer may have some genetic cause or reason. I've found that people who have gluten intolerance and/or have celiac disease have canker sores until they stop eating gluten. This could be one genetic connection, since celiac disease is genetic and passed on in the genes although the genes still need to be triggered by something unknown. One can carry the gene but not have full-blown celiac disease yet or ever.
Some experts think it's associated with the body's immune system. Here again it could also relate back to celiac disease because gluten flattens the villi in the small intestine and nutrients can't be absorbed so the immune system suffers and its defenses are broken down. So nutritional deficiencies could play a part.
Even if one doesn't have celiac disease or is not gluten intolerant, they may be eating a bad diet. The standard American diet is lacking in a lot of good phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals and we don't know what we're missing that could cause canker sores. It's thought that deficiencies in iron, folic acid, or Vitamin B-12 could play a part in developing canker sores.
The canker sores often crop up after a mouth injury due to dental work, getting braces doing aggressive tooth cleaning, or biting of the tongue or cheek.
Canker sores can also appear during emotional stress, during menstrual periods and when there are hormonal changes. Food allergies could play a part too. Then there is exposure in the mouth to various chemicals, irritating the sensitive tissues.
These are the most common causes of canker sores but there are many causes. There is much you can do to get rid of canker sores and stop them from ever appearing with the right treatments and remedies. There are many ways to get to the cause and find the best natural cure for canker sores.

These are some question and answers on
canker sores.
I get canker sores often enough that I know how to deal with them. However, I now have a strange one on the inside of my upper lip. It started as a normal canker sore and I realized that it is located exactly where my lip ring (on the bottom lip) touch the top lip. I recently bought a new lip ring that has a small jewel on it and I think that might be the cause of the sore since it is located so perfectly where the sore is. Then, this morning I woke up and the area around the canker sore is very swollen and red and seems to be pulling the skin apart. I don't know how to describe the way it looks but it is not smooth, it looks as though the skin is striped with patches of thin skin. I just want to know if my lip ring could be infecting my lip or if it is a mutant canker sore or some other weird issue.
canker sores is appearing everywhere in my mouth. i need some suggestions to stop it. anything!
So, my boyfriend gets cold sores and I am fully aware of what they are. I can get them if i kiss him right? before or after they appear? Well, I didnt get a cold sore from him, but the same time he got his cold sore... i got a canker sore, or so i think? Is this related in any way? I cant find anything online about it. Also, i've only gotten canker sores before inside my mouth, not ON my tongue before. It doesnt look the same as it normally does.... but it does feel like a canker sore. what should i do about this? any help? (and please answer the cold sore/canker sore related question... its been bothering me) also i am seven months pregnant... not sure if that makes a difference or not but is it really bad to have a canker sore(if thats what this is?) while pregnant???
i usually get thim on my lower lip or on my lower gum. i get them about one sore every 2 months. how do i get rid of them?
Does blistex lip medics (the blue one you put your finger in) get rid of canker sores? I have a canker soar so of this product does not work is there anything ealse that will?
Honestly, from since I can remember, I have always suffered from mouth ulcers. Sadly, this is a genetic problem, as my Dad also suffers from them a lot. And it's not just little ones. They're actually very big, white and painful. To a point that they get so bad sometimes I can't eat. Fortunately, I've been free of them for a couple of months this year. Now I have them again, and I have three on the bottom of my mouth. I'm sorry if this is all gross, but I have really tried everything with these buggers. I've even had products shipped over from America from a company specialising in canker sores. I've used Bonjela for years, but now it doesn't seem to be working. I'm also using a sort of anaesthetic mouthwash, and it works for a few minutes but then it goes back to this horrible stingy pain DX I clean my teeth thoroughly in the morning and in the evening. I have been aneamic for two years, but it's seem to improved, and being tired often leads to ulcers - so I try to have a reasonable sleeping pattern. I usually limit how much sugar I take in, because I know that also causes my ulcers. I've tried everything DX And I'm sorry, if you might think I'm whinging so much, but they are so painful and swolen and they often come in more than two. Is there a product maybe out there that anyone else has found quite good to use ? Or is there some cool at-home remedy you can use on your ulcers ? Some information would be absoloutely wonderful. Thankyou :)
I have a small white spot on the inside of my bottom lip, close to my gums. It hurts to eat and when I touch it with my tongue it stings and hurts. Is this a canker sore? What can I do to get rid of it?
Ok so I do Boxing, which he was against from the beginning. I was sparring (which basically means boxing with another guy) and I have braces. The guy gave me a good hit and I started bleeding. There was not a lot of blood, but my gums kept on getting hooked to a wire. My mom took me to the orthodontist, and she said nothing was really bad I just have a cut that turned into a canker sore. Then When my dad asked what happened, I just said my scar was getting swollen so thats why it kept on getting hooked, nothing was wrong with my braces. He said Okay. Then he asked my mom and she includes the Boxing part. Then my dad gets all pissed and says "I'm talking to your coach and taking you out of Boxing!" I said "For what?" He said "For Lying" But technically I didn't even lie, I said I got a scar which was true. He didn't even ask how I got it. And even if I did, I do not want him to know about that stuff anyway. BTW I have a HUGE Boxing event tomorrow. I do wear a mouthguard and I was wearing a mouthguard the thing is sometimes people forget to bite hard on it then you can bleed more easily.
Right now i have a canker sore and i have an appointment tomorrow will the dentist fix it or just leave it alone
i got my braces yesterday and i've already got like 5 canker sores because of this sharp screw kind of thing coming out of the bracket...and i tried chewing things but i cant have anything until it's mashed! so..what am i supposed to do to reduce the pain and start chewing again?
my lip has been pierced for over a month now and hasn't seemed to be infected before. But then i somehow hit myself in the face with a roll of duct tape (seriously) it swelled up and hurt really bad. I iced it and took ibuprofen and the swelling went down in a few days. But i notice the day after that there was some yellow/white stuff on the inside of the hole. It wasnt infected before, and i showed some people and they said it looks like a canker sore. and i googled it and i think its possible to be caused by something like this. The stuff on the hole looks kind of like puss but it seems more hard and less liquidy, i got a q tip with sea salt on it and it wont move... so based on this do you think its an infection or just something caused by the duct tape? either way what should i do to fix it, i have to hide my piercing from school in a few weeks so please help
well i have what i think is a canker sore my parents said they've had them before but mine doesn't hurt.is it still a canker sore?
I have braces, but I am prone to getting them for some reason. Due to the braces, if I hit my cheak on a bracket or bike my cheak it irritates it so much that a canker sore forms. I am searching for help and advice! I've tried what seams like to be everything out on the market, but I know there are others that have found or heard tips and ideas to help with the pain, humiliation, and annoyance. I am asking for your help if anyone knows how to Prevent, Heal, and Hide/Cover the pain! And even without braces, i am looking for any advice or tips.. and the reason why they last so long! haha
so i bit my inner cheek today and it is really wierd and hard to explain what it is like. it kinda looks like this : \ _\ <---- this part can kinda move around and wiggle l l i bit my cheek and it kind of cut my cheek and than there is a part above it that can move around now.
